Mantra Tea selects the highest grade of authentic Ali Mountain (Alishan) high mountain Jin Xuan tea variety grown above 1500m altitude. In the market, there are many sellers mixing low grade teas from China or Vietnam with little Taiwanese high mountain teas. Mantra Tea works with award-winning tea farmers and ensure the teas are truly from the batch sent for competition.
The Day Lilly Oolong, known as Jin Xuan in Chinese and Milky Oolong abroad, is named after the grandmother of a great Taiwanese tea researcher. Dr Wu worked for the Taiwan Council of Agriculture, and spent over 40 years perfecting this new cultivar, which has since achieved world fame and more than a few imitators.
Character:
True Milky Oolong is most certainly not flavoured with actual milk, as are the mainland Chinese knock-offs. Jin Xuan has become famous for its rich and creamy aroma, with a hint of vanilla. But each steeping brings out a different complex of flavors. The first brew has a smooth mouthfeel with a refreshing aftertaste. Subsequent steeps bring out its graceful sweetness. The poetic Taiwanese feel this tea is like a pretty high school sweetheart with stunning smile full of sunshine, energetic and lovely!
Preparation:
Please be sure to use a high quality spring or filter water. Bring the water boiled to about 95 Celsius to fully open the leaves. Over brewing it may turn bitter. Please refer to theĀ Brewing Guide.
